Yoga and Coffee, A Winning Combination

For some, the thought of attending a yoga studio on one’s own is at the very least, nerve-wracking. Uncertain of what the class may entail, daunted by the prospect of being the only yogi who isn’t flexible enough to touch their toes. The unknown and the potential embarrassment seem to far outweigh the bliss and benefits yoga has to offer. The anxieties are real, and you are by no means alone. That’s why Melodie of SportUp Yoga has been so passionate in creating a safe and welcoming space to encourage new (and seasoned) yogis to practice at SportUP Yoga.

FAQ’s

I'm new to yoga - where do I begin?

We’re so pleased you want to start your yoga journey!

All of our classes are beginner friendly, with friendly teachers who will give you lots of advice. We also advise beginners and those getting back into their practice to attend our 6 Week Beginner’s Yoga Course, which takes you through all styles of yoga, builds on core poses week on week and helps build strength and flexibility so you can jump into standard classes with confidence!

I’ve also created videos to help ease you into your first class:
– What to expect from your first yoga class
– Yoga Props – An Introduction

How do I book?

We’re glad you asked!

You can choose a membership option and create an account  above.

Once you’ve created an account you can book what classes you’d like to attend in the timetable above.

You can also book our 6 week Beginner’s Yoga Course HERE. $130pp all inclusive course, which includes a free mat and strap valued at $40.

Our next course start’s on the 4th of April at Toowong (6:45-7:45pm), but you can start and join in anytime.

What do I wear?

Loose clothing or something stretchy to move around in. Leggings and tank tops, or loose shorts for the guys are recommended. Bring some layers in the warmer month’s so you’re nice and cosy in Savasana.

What do I bring?

An open mind, a towel of any size and a bottle of water. Our studio’s  are fully equipped with mats and props but feel free to bring your own mat if you have one. Bring layers/a towel for the warmer months to keep snug.

What do I do when I arrive?

– Please arrive 5-10 minutes before class starts to make sure you have enough time to setup
– Take off your shoes and leave them near the door when you arrive
– Check – in with your teacher – and if you have any injuries/questions this is a great time to have a chat!
– Put your phone on silent/off and place your belongings along the side of the room
– Grab a mat and appropriate props and choose a space to setup in
– Please be considerate of others in the class, you will have up to 5 in a row so setup wisely

Do you have toilets/changing facilities?

All of our venues have toilets and places you can change before and after class.

What time do you open?

We open 10 minutes before class starts.  For the respect and convenience of all students and others using the venue, we start and finish classes on time.

We use community venues around Brisbane to deliver convenient yoga to you so please be mindful that others may be using the venue before/after the class.

Can I practice with an injury/pregnancy/menstruating?

If you’re menstruating or pregnant, or have any specific injuries please have a word with your teacher before class so they can suggest the modifications appropriate for you.

We always direct you to discuss all injuries or health concerns with your doctor before practising. With their advice, the decision is then up to you. Please note, practising with any injury or condition is at your own risk. Always honour your body and back off if you ever feel pain.

One of the amazing things about Yoga is that it is non-competitive – so please let go of any ego and practice within your limits. “Your ego is not your amigo.” :)
